June 3rd - 10th, 2011 Local Chiang Mai resident Julie Seibt takes her yoga practice out of Chiang Mai and into the jungles of Khao Sak National Park. Julie will be accompanied by Steven Smith as they host this week long Vipassana Meditation Retreat on June 3rd - 10th. Julie teaches a gentle, heart-led yoga. She is inspired by her certification in Anahata Yoga, and teacher training in Yin Yoga with Sarah Powers, and Yoga Therapy with Susi Hately-Aldous. Julie's passion is to help private clients and students move out of pain and into ease - on and off the mat. Julie brings a holistic approach to movement through her experience as an Asian Bio-Energetic Therapist, Master Reiki Teacher and Thai Massage Therapist. Steven Smith co-founded Vipassana Hawai'i in 1984 and in 1995 founded the MettaDana Project for educational and medical projects in Burma. Also in 1995 Steven helped establish the Kyaswa Valley Retreat Center in Burma. This partnership helped usher in the beginnings of Vipassana Hawai'i's Fusion Dhamma approach. Anchored in the Theravadan Buddhist Burmese lineage of Mahasi Sayadaw since 1974, he was trained and sanctioned as a teacher by revered monk and meditation master Sayadaw U Pandita. Steven divides his time teaching Vipassana and the Divine Abodes meditation retreats around the world. His long term vision for preserving the Dhamma is culminating in the beginnings of the Hawai'i Insight Meditation Center (HIMC) on the Big Island of Hawai'i's remote North Kohala coast. Dhammaruwan was introduced to meditation in his early childhood with the teachings of Anagarika Munindra of India. He has over 30 years of Meditation and Dhamma experience and over 15 years of Teaching and 10 years of international teaching experience. He was trained for many years under Bhante Henepola Gunaratana Nayaka Thero, and was a teacher-trainee under Joseph Goldstein and Steve Armstrong. He founded the Nirodha Trust and the Nirodha City Centre. Dhammaruwan is also known for spontaneously chanting suttas in his early childhood.
